Another Thanksgiving Dinner

Tonight, we had our own mini Thanksgiving dinner @ WLA.

We bought a 13 lbs turkey for $5 at Vons. It was the smallest one they had, unless we wanted to pay $8 for a smaller Butterball turkey (the $5 one was Safeway brand). So we went for the bigger bird.

And we also got the smallest glazed ham.
And three yams.
And a box of stuffing.

We got some fresh cranberry sauce from Steph's place the night before, so we were all set.

Of course I can't do anything w/ my broken foot, so I just sat around all day while じゅるる worked in the kitchen.

Sat, じゅるる's friend P and Koge came over.

Koge cried all night long. Found a little corner to sit down in, and continued crying.

Hmm. She didn't have any trouble settling down at Dee's house when she had to go there two years ago.

Everything was yummy.
And we have leftovers, so those will be devoured by Dee, Sat and us tomorrow.

Two Thanksgiving Dinners

Today, we had our traditional Yama family Chinese dinner for Thanksgiving.

Peking duck instead of turkey.
We went for the "three flavored soup" and found out it was a mushroom soup *laugh*

After the Chinese dinner, じゅるる and I headed over to Burbank to have pie at Steph's. She was hosting a traditional American dinner for couple of industry folks.

We were too full to eat the food, but still had room to eat her pumpkin pecan pie. She made it out of scratch! Like boiling a real pumpkin, instead of using a can. Actually, her whole dinner didn't use cans... like fresh cranberry sauce (which was also very yum!)

Tomorrow, じゅるる and I will make our own little Thanksgiving-like dinner.
Turkey, ham, mashed yams and stuffing.

No photos, cuz no camera. *sob*

Broke Camera (+ Crutches & Puffy Feet)

I went over to Dee's house today to pick up crutches.

C had broken her foot a while back, so I knew she had crutches... and it's better to borrow than to buy a new set & have it sit around in our closet for years to come, right?

We went over to K-town to eat bibimbop and kimchi noodles at the mall.
First time using crutches... and it took a while to get used to them. I started out with two, then decided to use one on my left side (bad foot side), then later realized it's easier to use on my right side to support my weight when I need to move my good leg.

On the way back to the car from the food court, my water bottle opened inside my bag... and everything got drenched, including my digital camera. It was floating in the water in my purse!! I think it died... *sob*

So I will be on a mission to buy a cheap digital camera for my blogging needs. I'm gonna keep breaking them, so I should go cheap.

But at the same time, I'm considering getting a Lumina(?). It's like a fake SLR, no? Sat thinks I should just get a SLR, but I don't want to break an expensive camera. Unless I buy one, but keep Sat in charge of it. She's better at taking pictures...

Then later tonight, as I was crocheting and playing Restaurant City on Facebook... I noticed my left foot was puffy!

Since I didn't have a camera, じゅるる took a picture w/ his phone.

It's like a fat person's foot!

I will keep my feet propped up for the rest of the night.

Broke Foot

I was sitting on the floor typing away at my computer (playing Restaurant City on Facebook...), and I got up to clean up the kitchen table for our late lunch.

But my left leg was numb from sitting on the ground... and I lost my balance... and landed on my left foot curled inward.

I heard a snap (crack?).
And I was rolling on the floor in pain for couple of minutes.

I thought it was just a bad sprain... but I couldn't get up on my feet.
So I iced my ankle for a bit. Then moved my foot to see how it looked, and it was swollen. Like I have tennis balls for my ankle.

It was a bit of luck that じゅるる had an appointment to see an orthopedic surgeon today (his elbow's been hurting), so we thought he could take a look at it & tape it up for me.

It took 5 minutes for me to stand up.
And another 15 minutes to get to the car (inching my way up & down the stairs on my butt).

They took an x-ray... which I thought was excessive for a sprained ankle. Then they rolled me into an exam room, じゅるる walked in & said "I saw the white line on the x-ray." "Huh?" "Oh, you didn't see it? The doc said it's the cleanest way to break the bone."

It's broken!?

So the doctor put a cast on my foot.
I'll recover in 6 weeks.

I have to go back in 3 weeks for another x-ray and to re-cast.

Attempting Crocheting

After spending lots of time playing those Facebook Playfish games, I decided I should pick up a hobby to keep me busy. I mean, I can only wait tables & fix toilets... plow fields & feed chickens... visit friends' pets & dress them up... for so many hours in a day.

So we went to Michael's off Rosecrans to pick up some beginner crochet books.
They had a starter kit for $15, so I got that. And the smallest ball (and cheapest) of yarn.

Then there was a mini book on amigurumi.
Basically crocheted animal plushies.
I guess the designs are from Japan (that's why they're cutesy), and I'm sure I could find patterns for them online... but I got the book for $5 too.

Hopefully I'm not too clumsy that I can't crochet.
I mean, Erikku was able to crochet. I don't see why I can't. I got a higher AP English score than he did (= has nothing to do w/ it, but I still like to rub it in 15 years after the fact).

If I'm able to make cutesy crocheted animals, that's what all of my friends & family will be getting for next year's holiday gift. You've been warned.

PS. We got holiday decorations too.
We'll hang tree ornaments on our window facing the courtyard, since we don't have a tree.

Ards & Star Geek Blu-Ray

Ards came by today b/c there was traffic on the freeway & she needed a place to kill time.

And for some reason, she keeps the St*r Tr*k Blu-Ray disc in her car.
It's the one that comes in the ship model too... "It was only $2 more," she says.

Of course I don't think she really has the Ironm*n mask case on display at her house too.

I only got to watch the first half, but it's pretty interesting.
Maybe they have it available for rental on the PS network.

Tried Netflix on PS3

The Netflix PS3 streaming disc arrived the other day, so we tried it out for the first time.

For some reason, our PS3 doesn't want to go full screen... so the on-screen size is only about a size of a 42" TV. Maybe because of that, the streaming quality didn't seem so bad.

Of course the 1-disc-at-a-time plan only lets you stream either from your PC or PS3 (not both at the same time), so we may want to upgrade to the 2-disc-at-a-time plan... But we're in Burbank for most of the month, so we'll have cable there. Maybe in January or something.

Oh yeah, I should buy a HDMI cable too...

Saw Steph

Since we're spending a majority of our time in Burbank this month, I've been trying to set up some time to meet up w/ Steph.

I was gonna go w/ じゅるる to the studio today, so we decided today would be a good day to meet up. Except I had stuff to do... that took longer than expected...

So by the time I got to Steph's house, she was getting ready to leave for a dinner w/ a friend. But I did get to see her for 10 mins or so *laugh*

We'll try again next time.

Got Flu Shot

I got my H1N1 flu shot today.

Whew.
Since I already got my seasonal flu shot in September, I don't have to worry about じゅるる bringing home any viruses from the sound studio.

We might have to quarantine Ards at our Westwood apt too.
Her new office is filled w/ sickly people, I heard.
